To convert volts (V) to amps (A) with watts or ohms, you need to know the voltage value, power value and resistor value. Use these formulas for quick conversions from volts to amps with watts or ohms. Here are the formulas:
Conversion General Formulas
If you know the power (P) and the voltage (V), you can find the electric current (I) by rearranging the Power Law: \[ \text{I} = \frac{P}{V} \]Example Calculation :- if a device uses 400 watts of power and voltage is 12 volts, the electric current is:
Therefore, the electric current value in this calculation is 33.33 A.
If resistance and voltage are known, electric current can be calculated using:
\[ \text{I} = \text{V}\times \text{R} \]Example Calculation :- if a power supply voltage run on 12 V, the resistors 50 ohms , the voltage across the resistor is:
\[ \text{V} = 0.2 \text{ A} \times 50 \text{ Ω} = 10 \text{ V} \]Therefore, the voltage value in this calculation is 10 V.
Unit of Measurement
- \( P \): is the active power in watts (W)
- \( V \): is the voltage in volts (V)
- \( I \): is the current in amperes (A)
- \( R \): is the resistance in ohms (Ω)
