To select a generator set (Genset) or transformers to use, we must first calculate all the power requirements load.Technically (maintenance) is not allowed to use the generator or transformers until it is out of capacity (100%). We need to choose a generator or transformers size big than power load at least 10% to 40%. This means that we let the generator or transformers run only 60% to 90% of its load, and it gives enough power to the electrical devices. At the same time, we can predict the growth of various electrical equipment that has not been thought of.
Generator Set or Power Transformers Formulas
A typical safety Factor ranges from 10% to 40%. you can use the following formula:
- General Formula
Note :- Generator Safety Factor Allow
- \(0.1\) = \(10\)%
- \(0.2\) = \(20\)%
- \(0.3\) = \(30\)%
- \(0.4\) = \(40\)%
- One another formula :-
Unit of Measurement:
- \(S_{Gen}\) :- is the apparent power of generator size in kilo-volts-amps (kVA),
- \(S_{Load}\) is the total load power in kilo-volts-amps (kVA).
- \(N\) is the Percentage of Generator allowed in percent (%) (Generator safety factor allowed 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%).
Practical Examples
Total Loads :- Total apparent power : 50 kVA
Safety Factor :- 30%
One more formula
Therefore, the generator set or transformers size is 65kVA.
